Artist's Description
A old fashioned covered bridge spans a country creek covered in freshly fallen snow along with the surrounding trees making a beautiful winter scene.
Rapps Bridge, also known as Rapps Dam Bridge, is one of fifteen surviving historic wooden covered bridge in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Rapps Bridge is located on Rapps Dam Road in East Pikeland Township. It is a 105-foot-long, Burr truss bridge, constructed in 1866 by Benjamin F. Hartman. It has fieldstone abutments, horizontal siding and boxed cornices with returns at its portals. It is one of three covered bridges that cross French Creek, the others being Hall's Bridge and Kennedy Bridge.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
The Rapps Bridge was renovated in 1978 and again in 2011 for approximately 1.5 million dollars. On April 29, 2014, the bridge was heavily damaged when a tractor trailer crossed it. It remains closed until further notice
About Michael Porchik
I grew up in the country about 45 minutes northwest of Philadelphia. I tend to enjoy the simpler things in life, such as covered bridges, my fur pal Mundee, nature and photography. I am a mostly self taught photographer who isn't afraid to ask others about other techniques as I believe all artist can continue to learn and grow from the work of others. I am lucky enough to live in Chester County Pennsylvania which is home to quite a few covered bridges. I am hoping to one day finish photograhing all of the bridges in the county, after that I can move on to the surrounding counties. My wife and I adopted my Fur Pal Mundee 3 years ago, and I love being able to capture the intensity of the Border Collie species. I love dogs in...

When I visited this beauty last fall it appeared to be under major repair. Looks like you found it as part of a wonderful winter scene, Michael. Well done. - Mike (V)
Michael Porchik replied:
Unfortunately this bridge is under repair after a tractor trailer drove through it. Renovations should start later this year.
